How I Became A Tutor

Based on years of experience, I firmly believe that the best learning takes place in the 1-on-1 or small group tutorial. I have taught many students to write who have made composition their careers, ranging from a published author of young adult novels to a journalist who does free-lance writing for The Wall Street Journal and Vogue.

Most importantly, I have helped hundreds of student writers to find their voice.

After having taught for 30 years, in 2007, I was finally able to accept the invitation to the Greater Kansas City Writing Project’s Summer Institute. Writing that summer for GKCWP became one of the most transformative activities in my life. I am now a Teacher-Consultant for the GKCWP, and have presented many times on the efficacy of writing. I am passionate about the importance of expressing oneself in a clear, concise, and compelling composition. I will help student writers to discover their purpose in writing, while always considering the subject and the audience.

Furthermore, I will assist students in other academic areas to reach new levels of success. As a tutor, I promise to be receptive and available. I plan to serve more as a coach and to increase your confidence as a reader, writer, and thinker. I will also equip you with strategies to manage your time, to prepare for challenges in your current courses, and to conquer future challenges in college or careers.

As an experienced teacher who has received many accolades, as an author who has published award-winning curricula, and as a premier writing coach, I look forward to serving you as a tutor. I am committed to quality education and have a desire to help others reach their potential. Let me assist you!
